Kern River Camping & Whitewater Rafting Friday, June 07, 2019 2:00 PM

Adventure People

The rainfall/snow this winter is going to make for epic whitewater rafting at the Kern River this spring! In Sequoia National Forest, an easy drive from Los Angeles, the lovely Kern River hides in its own special wilderness, a winding canyon overhung with willows, sycamore, and luxuriant maple. I've reserved 3 campsites at Frandy Campground, nestled along the banks of the Kern River, among oak woodlands and steep hillsides. The campground features clean bathrooms and coin-operated showers and is located within walking distance to downtown Kernville.

On Saturday, we'll enjoy a rafting trip on the Lower Kern with Whitewater Voyages. We'll be doing a 9-mile stretch of the river with Class II-III rapids. The Jungle Run is scientifically proven to be far superior to Disneyland's alternative and is great for first-time rafters. For those looking for something a bit more challenging, message me for details about the Class III-IV+.

--- THE PLAN ---

FRIDAY - Arrive at Frandy Park Campground any time between 2 pm and 11 pm to set up camp and relax by the river. Tonight we'll enjoy drinks/smores/games around the campfire.

SATURDAY- At 9:30 am, we'll meet at the designated meeting spot (within the campground) for our whitewater rafting adventure! Our river guides will give a safety talk and we'll be transported to the river put-in.

Note: DO NOT WEAR FLIP FLOPS OR THONGS FOR RAFTING - YOU MUST WEAR SHOES THAT SECURELY STAY ON YOUR FEET SUCH AS TENNIS SHOES, STURDY WATER SHOES, ETC.

After rafting, we can hit the local brewery for a well-deserved beer.

Tonight, we'll enjoy a potluck dinner, so please be sure to bring something to share if you'd like to participate.

SUNDAY - After breakfast, we'll pack up and check out by 12 pm. For those who have time, we'll hit the Remington Hot Springs.
