Alamos Canyon Open Space Exploratory HIKE #3 (Simi Valley) Saturday, May 25, 2019 8:00 AM

Rancho Simi Trail Blazers

DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: Moderate exploratory hike with an undetermined distance and elevation gain/loss.
The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District “has officially completed the purchase of 326 acres of Alamos Canyon, an open space area north of the 118 Freeway in Simi Valley” [Simi Valley Acorn[masked]]. This will be our third exploration of this new addition to Simi Valley’s parkland.

PREPAREDNESS: Bring 2-3 liters/quarts of water (or other suitable liquid) and lunch/snack. Wear appropriate footwear (preferably hiking boots) and be prepared for bright sunlight (sunglasses), heat (layers of clothing), and/or precipitation (rain gear). Hiking pole(s) and a camera might come in handy.

NOTE: At the beginning of each outing you will be required to read and sign a liability release form (a sign-in sheet).

DIRECTIONS TO THE “TRAILHEAD” LOCATION IN SIMI VALLEY:

NOTE: Although there is now an official trailhead located in Oak Park (the county park along West Los Angeles Avenue near Moorpark), the Rancho Simi Trail Blazers have a special agreement with the Simi Valley Sanitation Department (600 West Los Angeles Avenue) allowing us to use its gated parking lot for the duration of our hike. There are three gated entrances to the facility. Only the middle gate will be open.

From Simi Valley, take Hwy 118 to the Madera Road exit in Simi Valley.
Head south 0.45 miles on Madera Road to its intersection with Easy Street and turn right (west) onto Easy Street.
Drive 1.2 miles to the Simi Valley Sanitation Department’s facility on the left (NOTE: Easy Street becomes W Los Angeles Avenue along the way).
Turn left (south) into the Sanitation Department’s entrance driveway and park in its parking lot.
Wait for the hiking leader(s).
