Irvine Amtrak to Oceanside via Aliso & Salt Creeks Saturday, July 27, 2019 8:30 AM

Robert's Cycling Adventures

Awesome ride to Oceanside with a "new route" via Aliso Creek and then going thru Laguna Niguel Park and right after picking up the Salt Creek Trail down to the Ocean with an awesome view there of the Beach and the Ritz Carlton.

Then a hop skip over to Dana Point Harbor Park for an great view overlooking the Harbor. That will bring us to mile 20 and time for a power bar snack. I recommend we eat a big snack there and then eat at the finish in Oceanside.

you will be riding on the 5 Freeway the 8 miles to Oceanside which is legal, as I have done it at least 3 times before, and it might be safer than going thru Pendleton because of the wide shoulder and rumble strip which will give you about 12 to 15 feet in-between you and traffic. want a new challenge. Smile it's all an adventure anyhow no matter which way we go.

There are many places to eat in Oceanside but we usually eat at the Tin Fish Cafe under the Pier. The food is good and especially the Grilled Tilapia Sandwich, big enough for 2 so who wants to share half?

Please plan on spending the whole day on the ride although we should be arriving in Oceanside around 2 PM then have our Lunch, go get our Metrolink Tickets and take a look around town or hang out by the Pier and wait for the Train that leaves at 2:51 PM.

The $10 Weekend Day Pass is available for purchase through all Metrolink ticket vending machines (TVM) on Saturday and Sunday only. Note: The Weekend Day Pass is ONLY VALID for EITHER Saturday or Sunday. The validity date is the date of purchase.

See the Metrolink schedule: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/schedules/stationtostation/?from=111&to=100&weekday=0&submit.x=43&submit.y=10

Amtrak also has 3 trains heading North in the afternoon. Check out their website at http://www.octa.net/pdf/2017_LOSSAN_Pacific-Surfliner-Schedule-040317.pdf

The 3 trains that leave after 3 PM when we should be finished with Lunch and a "walk on the Pier" are 3:45 PM , 4:06 PM, 4:53 PM. So depends on how long you want to explore the town. Last time there was a "Street Fair" going on with entertainment.

Amtrak does require that you make "bike reservations" when booking your ticket.

Another way is to pre-position your vehicle in Oceanside the day before and then just drive back. Or have someone pick you up. But I like to relax on the train and enjoy the Ocean views on the way back.

At 50 miles this is a definite Intermediate ride but we will be regrouping to keep everyone together.

This is a great ride!!! Hope to see all of you "Happy Cyclists" there. Woohoo!!
