1959 Corvette XP-87 Concept: 1959 Corvette XP-87 Stingray Racer Concept. 

This really demonstrates the design concepts that go into the later Stingray production car.  They experimented a bit with the wheel disappearing into the shell that gives it a kind of droopy look, but  abandoned it at production time. Functional, and still functioning, in spite of the photos with one or more stodgy unhappy-looking accountants riding in it.
